Separate Lives

A story of two people who are perfect for each other... but never meet.

She will frequently claim that she is an artist
But that's just an excuse for depression
He will often maintain that he missed his calling
Says he should have been a musician
And they work in the very same city
Going home every night on the very same train

And they're living their separate lives
Never knowing it's loneliness that they share
And they're missing each other by moments
While the time keeps on passing them by

He says he's a renaissance man, he sees the big picture
But he's blind to his own neighborhood
She sometimes thinks about heaven, wondering whether
There will be room there for her
And they walk with their heads facing down
Going through every day in their introverted way

One evening they both think the same, they stop for some coffee
At a little cafe on their street
He catches her eye and he thinks, but just for a moment
And the truth is they never will meet
So they silently leave and go home
Too afraid of the unknown to give up being alone
